	Speaker: Asma Jan Muhammad * Senior Finance Manager – Local conglomerate, Dubai, UAE.		Asma is a Chartered Accountant from Pakistan and England&Wales by profession, having finance and accounting experience of 16 years with diverse industry sectors. She has been living in Dubai since 2007, and have added value to leading multinational and local groups throughout her career. Born in a conservative middle class in an area dominated by strict code of life, Asma had to struggle from early life. Her independent soul refused to accept the restrictions and burdens loaded on the women of society. Asma realized early in life that if she did not want to be suffocated, she had to be educated and high achiever. Throughout her school and college life she struggled and achieved top positions. She secured two gold-medals in CA exams. She had to take tuition classes to finance her education. There was also the challenge to convince her own family that she should be allowed to fly as a free bird and achieve her goals. Life during training for professional qualification was not easy either. There were only a few lady trainees. And they were treated as trophies by the male dominated senior staff. Somehow Asma survived and achieved the Chartered Accountancy qualification with kudos. Life in the practical business world had its own challenges. Even in the 21st century there are glass ceilings. Throughout her career Asma has worked to shatter these glass ceilings. Not an easy task. In order to give a strong profile Asma decided to contest the election of the Managing Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP). ICAP has approximately 1000 members in the UAE. She won the election with the highest numbers of votes and was elected as the Chair of the ICAP-UAE Managing Committee. As the Chair, Asma worked tirelessly to improve the profile and opportunities for the ICAP members in the UAE. She became the first overseas recipient of the Chartered Accountant Woman of the Year award 2019, conferred by the President of Pakistan. Besides continuing with her career, She is raising 2 kids. She also pursues community services and carries deep interest in poetry and music as part-time passion. She launched an initiative titled “Femme-Passion” comprising qualified female CAs in the UAE.
